McKenna Family Reunion - July 31 - August 2, 2009 Edmonton Alberta
Why Edmonton ?

  1. Rita and Jean both settled in the Edmonton area, raised their families  and are laid to rest here. Several of the MacMillan and  Ball descendants lived in Edmonton for many years.
  2. Prices are cheaper in Edmonton than in the Vancouver area where the other largest group resides. (and no sales tax -   at least not yet!)
  3. Two of the three original organizers : Patty Schachter from Calgary (Ball Clan) and Del MacMillan (MacMillan Clan), who lives in both Whitehorse & Edmonton,  are closer to Edmonton so it will be easier for us to make arrangements. Maureen Denison and the McKenna Clan are spread out throughout Canada and the States and will have to travel regardless of the location. So the west, where the bulk of the descendants are made good sense.
  4. Edmonton has a lot of festivals and attractions scheduled
for the same weekend so there will be lots to do and see!

Venue:

Pleasantview Community Hall
10860 - 57 Avenue, Edmonton

The hall is located in a lovely residential area close to the Southgate Shopping Centre
and is easily accessible from
both 109 Street and the

means easy access to the entire city. The parking lot  is spacious and there's lots of additional parking adjacent to the hall ot 57th Street.  We have permission to park a few RVs on the lot or on the street overnight if necessary as well as some other nearby locations.

The hall can accommodate up to 200 people and has great ambience with lots of wood including oak parquet flooring a great stage and gorgeous burgundy stage curtains.
The kitchen area is a caterer's dream with lots of storage, cool storage, cooking and serving areas.  Weddings are often held in this lovely location.

The setting outside the hall is beautiful
with mature trees, a gazebo, a playground full of fun things to climb on and a spacious park areas for baseball or soccer games.

For those who would like to go and pay their respects, the hall is just a few blocks' walking distance of the Pleasantview Cemetery where Granny McKenna, Rita and Jean are buried, along with several other family members. We will be preparing maps for those interested.
